SpaceX

SpaceX Receives a Big Gift Before IPO: $4.16 Billion from the US Space Force
SpaceX
Phoenix Technology News, May 30 (Beijing Time) – According to Reuters, the U.S. Space Force announced on Friday that it has awarded SpaceX a $4.16 billion contract for a satellite project designed to track and target aerial threats . SpaceX is currently pursuing its IPO.
The project, named Space-Based Advanced Mobile Target Designator (SB-AMTI), is an interconnected Distributed Complex System (SoS) that integrates space-based sensors, secure communication links, and ground-based processing systems to promote closer collaboration between government space industry bases.
The Trump administration’s flagship Golden Dome missile defense system comprises multiple layers, one of which is the sensing and tracking layer. These satellites are expected to play a role in tracking missiles. The Golden Dome program aims to expand ground-based interceptors, sensors, and command systems while adding space-based satellites to detect, track, and potentially counter aerial threats, including on-orbit weapons still under discussion.
The U.S. Space Force stated that the SB-AMTI project has a pool of suppliers including SpaceX and will award multiple contracts over the next year. “This initial contract is expected to deploy a satellite constellation by 2028, providing joint operational forces with early capabilities to eliminate operational blind spots,” the Space Force said in a statement.
Earlier this week, the U.S. Space Force awarded SpaceX a $2.29 billion contract to build a secure, high-speed satellite communications network to connect military sensors and weapons platforms around the world. SpaceX is targeting a valuation of over $1.75 trillion in its IPO. (Author/Xiao Yu)
